Course Description:
This course emphasizes the consolidation of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in university studies and beyond. Students analyze a range of challenging literary texts from various historical periods, countries, and cultures, as well as interpret and evaluate informational, graphic, and media texts. They create sophisticated oral, written, and media texts for academic purposes, with a strong emphasis on academic language, effective reading strategies, research, and controlled, coherent writing. The course prepares students for university-level English and other postsecondary programs requiring advanced analytical and communication skills.
